Chile Sets Clocks Back to Standard Time

Effective Sunday, April 7

One-Hour Time Adjustment

On Sunday, April 7, Chile will switch to standard time at 12:00 AM. This adjustment will set the time back by one hour, marking the end of daylight saving time (DST).

The time change will affect all regions of Chile, including Easter Island, which has three time zones. The new local time for Santiago, the capital of Chile, will be one hour behind the previous time. This change will result in an additional hour of darkness in the evening and an earlier sunrise in the morning.

The switch to standard time is a common practice in many countries around the world. The main purpose of DST is to make better use of daylight during the summer months, reducing the need for artificial lighting and potentially saving energy. However, in the winter months, standard time is observed to align with the natural rhythms of the sun.
